Seattle Public Library is an icredible building. It was designed by OMA and opened in May 2004.
Jeśli chodzi o przystosowanie dla ON, budynek spisuje się równie dobrze. Aczkolwiek jest kilka mankamentów, które wyłapałam.
When it comes to universal design - the building is pretty spectacular too. Although there are a few things that I noticed that seem not so universal.
WEJŚCIE
Najpierw pozytywy. Wejście jest wyraźnie oznakowane, z poziomu 0.
ENTRANCE
First - well done stuff. An Entrance is clearnly signed, on the same level as sidewalk.
SALA WYKŁADOWA
Wejście z dołu i z góry. Na dole miejsca przygotowane dla "wózkowiczów", dobrze oznaczone. Mównica również bez niepotrzebnej "katedry" - niepełnosprawny ruchowo mówca będzie mógł swobodnie korzystać z tej sali.
Kolor podłogi inny niż stopni - mniej lub bardziej świadome przystosowanie dla osób niedowidzących.
LECTURE HALL
Two entrances - speaker level and from the top. On the bottom level there is a well signed space with no sits in a front row - for people on the wheelchairs. Also the speaker stands on no podium - which makes it equal for the speakers on the wheelchair.
There is a contrast between the colour of the floor and pitched side of the hall - intentionally or not, makes it easier for visually impaired.
Strefa dzieci jest przyjazna pod każdym względem. Każda różnica poziomów jest pokonywalna. Zarówno toaleta dla chłoców, jak i dziewczynek, jest przystosowana dla niepełnosprawnych ruchowo dzieci - przy najmniej według oznaczenia, bo tu nie wchodziłam :)
KIDS
The Children Center is a very friendly place - whichever aspect you consider. It is made easy to move from one level to another. Both, the girls' and boys' toilet is adjusted for disabled kids - but this I know only from the sign for I didn't enter them :)
Tym razem dla nie(do)widzących - oznaczenia brajlem pięter (ale szkoda, że już funkcja piętra nie została opisana) oraz głośnik. A przy okazji śliczny kolor!
ELEVATOR
For the visually impaired - numbers of each floor in braille alphabet (but maybe the function of each floor should also be described in braille) and there is a speaker. And the colour of the elevator is cool!
Mniej udane
5TE PIĘTRO
Jest całe czerwone! Wygląda to na pewno ciekawie, ale jest trudne do poruszania się i, podczas gdy dla ludzi bez problemów z widzeniem może to stanowić przygodę, dla niedowidzących może być przeszkodą nie do pokonania, a pokonać ją jest konieczne, bo na tym piętrze znajdują się toalety. Może inna jego funkcja lepiej współgrałaby z takim pomysłem.
Less successful
5TH LEVEL
It is all red! It looks interesting but is difficult to orientate there. While for the people with no vision problems it can be quite fun, for the visually impaired it may be too hard. The thing is that you have to use that floor because the toilets are located here. Maybe different function for it would be better.
TOALETA
Przepraszam za zdjęcie sedesów, ale postanowiłam zaznaczyć jedną rzecz, że lepiej jest projektować oparcie z obu stron [tu należy sobie wobrazić przesiadanie się z wózka na toaletę].
A druga rzecz - umywalka: lustro jest co prawda ładnie pochylone, ale brak jest pochwytów. Ludzie poruszający się o kulach ich potrzebują - z obu stron, bo nie wiadomo, która będzie tą silniejszą stroną użytkownika.
TOILET
Sorry for the photos of the toilet but I need to point out that it is more convenient to have the support on both sides of the toilet [imagine moving from the wheelchair to the toilet].
And another thing is the washbasin: the mirror is assembled with an angle which is very well but there are no supports on the sides of it. It is needed for people walking on crutches and it is needed on both sides of the washbasin for you don't know which side of the user is stronger.
